Science has shown that animals are sentient beings and that we should therefore guarantee them at least a life worth living. Bioethics has argued in favor of their inclusion in the sphere of moral consideration. However, the stark reality reveals ongoing exploitation, mistreatment, and unwarranted killing of animals, often within legal bounds.
This prevailing injustice necessitates immediate and imperative changes, to foster compassion and empathy towards our fellow beings.
We believe that it is possible and necessary to overcome the anthropocentric view in order to define a new relationship with other species based on respect instead of exploitation. In the ideal society we want to achieve, the needs, interests and dignity of other animals will be fully recognized and consequently will also be taken into account and protected by law.
We at ALI believe in building a more equitable society through the law.
We are committed to prioritising the subject of animals in the political agenda, striving for equitable legislation that aligns with advancements in scientific understanding, whilst being responsive to contemporary societal dynamics.
To this end, we carry out interdisciplinary research activities and advocacy actions, publish in our online journal, and manage multiple initiatives to broaden the cultural bases on the topic.
We are committed to ensuring that the regulations are properly enforced.
We make concrete proposals to improve the future of animals.
Let's put animals at the center of the political agenda.
